This is a reproduction German WW2 butter/fat dish/container in orange. These containers came in several colors including black, orange, green, brown and I have even seen a multicolored mix that had purple in it. These reproduction pieces are made of a hard plastic resin that simulates the original Bakelite very well. The diameter is 4 1/4" (11 cm).
